I first played Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes on the Nintendo DS back in 2009, a time when the handheld was full of creative hybrids. Capcom published it, and it stood out by blending a fantasy role-playing story with a very unique puzzle battle system. It felt like a fresh take during that era of the DS, which had no shortage of inventive games.

You control one of five young heroes, navigating the world screen by screen to uncover a plot involving a demonic invasion. Your main goal is to unite the factions and push back the darkness. The core of the game is its strategic combat; you arrange colored units in columns on the touch screen, forming attacks by linking three of the same color horizontally or building defenses with three vertically. Between these puzzle battles, you explore the overworld, solve environmental puzzles, and gather new units and artifacts to strengthen your army. The pacing is deliberate, with some challenging boss fights that require careful unit management. It feels like a clever and satisfying mix of thinking on your feet and long-term planning.
