Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story is one of those weird, brilliant DS RPGs where you spend half the game inside Bowser’s body—like some kind of plumbing-themed Fantastic Voyage. You switch between controlling Mario and Luigi (who’re tiny and running around Bowser’s organs) and Bowser himself (who’s stomping through the Mushroom Kingdom like a wrecking ball).
The battles are classic Mario RPG timing-based hits, but with this hilarious twist where you can make Bowser inhale enemies and then fight them as the bros in his stomach. I won’t lie, the first time I had to dodge floating stomach acid while punching a Goomba in the intestines, I knew this game was special. The writing’s full of dumb, charming jokes, and the sprite animations are ridiculously expressive. It’s the kind of game where you’ll accidentally spend 20 minutes just making Bowser flex at NPCs.
Also, Bowser gets superpowers. That’s not a spoiler—it’s just objectively cool.
