Mario Party DS is basically the chaotic board game madness you love, but now it fits in your pocket. You pick your favorite Mario character—I always go with Yoshi—and then it’s a mix of rolling dice, stealing stars, and getting way too competitive over mini-games. Some use the touch screen in weird ways, like blowing into the mic to inflate balloons or frantically rubbing the stylus to win a tug-of-war.
The best part? You can play with friends wirelessly, which means you can ruin friendships anywhere—on the bus, in class (not that I’d recommend it), or just lying around at home. The boards are smaller than the console versions, but they’re packed with enough traps and surprises to keep things interesting. Just watch out for Bowser spaces. They’re the worst.
If you’ve got a DS and even one friend with a copy, this is the kind of game you’ll end up playing way longer than you planned.
