Super Mario 64 DS takes the N64 classic and squeezes it into your pocket—with some neat upgrades. Yeah, it’s still the same crazy 3D platforming you remember, but now you’ve got Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi tagging along, each with their own weird little quirks (Yoshi’s flutter jump is weirdly satisfying). The touchscreen minigames feel tacked on, but the core game? Still holds up.
Honestly, the controls take some getting used to—no analog stick means you’re either wrestling the D-pad or fumbling with the touchscreen. But once it clicks, running around Peach’s castle collecting stars feels just as magical as it did back then. The extra characters add some replay value, too—Luigi’s high jumps make some stars way easier to grab.
If you missed this one on N64 or just want to relive it with a few tweaks, it’s a solid way to kill time on a bus ride.
