Startrek The Next Generation Game

Okay, so Star Trek: The Next Generation on NES is... an experience. You start off as a cadet getting thrown into the captain's chair of the Enterprise, which sounds awesome until you realize most of the "missions" involve navigating a clunky menu system that feels like tech support in space. Captain "Pilchard" (yes, they misspelled Picard) barks orders at you while you try to manage shields, phasers, and somehow keep your crew from mutinying.
The first mission has you responding to a distress call, but good luck figuring out which of the twelve identical menu options actually lets you hail the ship. Once you do, you'll either accidentally blow them up or get your own ship wrecked because the controls are about as intuitive as a Klingon opera. The more you play, the more convoluted the scenarios get—like trying to negotiate with Romulans while your engine's on fire and half your crew is asleep at their posts.
It's one of those games where you can tell the developers really loved Star Trek, but the execution feels like you're trapped in a Kobayashi Maru scenario with no cheat codes. If you're into retro frustration with a side of 8-bit LCARS aesthetic, this might be your jam. Just don't expect it to play like the show.
