Donkey Kong Classics bundles two NES gems—the original Donkey Kong and its sequel Donkey Kong Jr.—into one cartridge. You start off as Jumpman (yep, before he was Mario) climbing ladders and dodging barrels to rescue Pauline, just like the arcade. The controls feel stiff at first—those old-school jumps take precision—but once you get the timing down, it’s weirdly satisfying to outmaneuver DK’s nonsense.
Then there’s Donkey Kong Jr., where you play as the little guy trying to free his dad from Mario’s cages. Swinging on vines and dodging snapping plants is a totally different vibe, and honestly, it’s tougher than the first game. The music’s catchy, the pixels are chunky, and you’ll probably rage-quit at least once when a bird catches you off-guard. Classic NES frustration at its finest.
Controls: Arrow keys to move, Z to jump, X to run (in DK Jr.). Good luck not throwing your keyboard.
