Captain America and the Avengers came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, published by Data East. It was one of many side-scrolling action games on the NES, arriving when comic book adaptations were becoming more common on home consoles.
You control one of four Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Vision, or Hawkeye. Your goal is to fight through waves of enemies to stop the Red Skull. The game is a side-scroller where you move screen by screen, punching and using your character's special weapon, like Captain America's shield or Hawkeye's arrows. You also face occasional vehicle-based shooting sections that break up the platforming. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be punishing, demanding precise jumps and quick attacks.
