Transformers came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, published by Activision. It was part of that early wave of NES games where developers were still figuring out how to translate big licenses into playable experiences. You got to be the Autobots, which was the main draw if you were a kid who loved the cartoon.

You control Optimus Prime, and later other Autobots, from an overhead view. The main goal is to stop the Decepticons from draining Earth's energy by finding and destroying their bases. You explore the world screen by screen, transforming between robot and vehicle modes to navigate different terrain; the truck form is faster on roads, while the robot can fight. Combat is simple, using a basic energy weapon to shoot enemy drones and occasional familiar Decepticon characters. The game is notoriously difficult, with sparse energy pickups and enemies that respawn quickly, making progress feel slow and deliberate. It feels like a constant struggle for survival against overwhelming odds.
