Man, this NES Spider-Man game is rough around the edges, but there's something weirdly charming about it. You swing through blocky cityscapes (well, "swing" is generous—more like awkwardly latch onto invisible ceiling hooks) and punch your way through waves of goons before facing off against the Sinister Six. The controls take some getting used to—Spidey moves like he's stuck in molasses half the time—but once you get the rhythm down, it's oddly satisfying to web up enemies and toss them off rooftops.
Boss fights are the highlight here. Each member of the Sinister Six has their own gimmick—Electro zips around the screen like he's had too much coffee, while Doc Ock's arms stretch in ways that shouldn't be possible on an 8-bit system. Just don't expect the story to make much sense—something about a kidnapped aunt and a bomb? Honestly, I just mashed through the text boxes to get back to the action.
It's definitely one of those "had to be there" NES experiences—flaws and all.
