Superman on NES is one of those weird, ambitious games that tries to do way too much—side-scrolling action, puzzles, an overworld map, even little animated cutscenes. You start as Clark Kent (complete with awkward walking animation) and have to find a phone booth to transform, which honestly feels like a hassle when you just want to fly around punching stuff.
The powers are fun to mess with—heat vision melts enemies, ice breath freezes them, and superflight lets you zip across the screen—but the energy bar drains fast, so you’re constantly hunting for power-ups. The bosses are all Kryptonian exiles from the movies, and beating them gets you a cheesy Daily Planet front page celebrating your win. Lex Luthor’s the final showdown, and let’s just say he’s not exactly a pushover.
Weirdest part? The Japanese version has the movie soundtrack, but the US release got a completely different (and kinda forgettable) score. Still, if you’re into janky retro superhero games, this one’s a trip.
