Mega Man 6 is kind of the underdog of the NES series—Capcom barely even bothered publishing it in the US, leaving Nintendo to handle it while they focused on the flashier Mega Man X. But don’t let that fool you. It’s still classic Blue Bomber action, just with a weirdly corporate twist: instead of Dr. Wily causing trouble (again), this time it’s a shady tournament run by some rich guy named Mr. X.

You jump in, pick a Robot Master stage (Flame Man’s level has these obnoxious fire pillars, by the way), and do the usual—slide, shoot, collect power-ups. The Rush adaptors are new, letting you mix and match upgrades like jet boots or a power punch. It’s not the hardest in the series, but the stages have this weird charm, like Knight Man’s castle with its disappearing blocks or Plant Man’s jungle full of… well, plants. And yeah, Wily’s still lurking behind everything. Some things never change.

It’s not the most polished Mega Man, but if you’ve blasted through the first five, you’ll feel right at home here.
