Mega Man 6 came out for the NES in 1993, a time when the system was being overshadowed by the newer Super Nintendo. Capcom developed the game, but Nintendo handled its publication in North America, a shift that reflected the changing market. It was one of the later 8-bit entries, arriving when many players were already looking toward the next generation of consoles.

You control Mega Man, a blue robot, running and jumping through side scrolling stages filled with enemies and platforms. Your main goal is to defeat eight Robot Masters, each with a unique stage, to acquire their special weapons. A signature mechanic is the ability to choose any of the initial eight stages from the start, allowing you to tackle them in your preferred order. Another is the addition of the Rush Adaptors, which let Mega Man fuse with his robotic dog to gain temporary flight or a power punch. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty, while challenging, feels more balanced than some earlier entries. It feels satisfying to learn each boss's pattern and finally overcome a tricky section after a few attempts.
