About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES came out in 1989 from Konami. It was one of those licensed games that everyone seemed to have, a side-scrolling beat 'em up mixed with some exploration that felt ambitious for the console at the time.
You control the four turtles, switching between them on the fly. Each has a unique weapon affecting their range and speed; Donatello's bo staff is slow but keeps enemies at a distance, while Raphael's sai are fast but short. Your goal is to fight through levels, from city streets to the Technodrome, to rescue April O'Neil and stop Shredder. The game uses an overworld map to select stages, and you navigate screen by screen, battling Foot Soldiers and other enemies. It's known for its high difficulty, with limited continues and each turtle representing a single life. Navigating the dam level to disarm underwater bombs is a particularly tense section. Playing it feels like a constant, frantic scramble to survive.
