About Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Ii - The Arcade Game (europe)
I remember getting Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles II for the NES back in 1991. Konami published it, and it was their attempt to bring the arcade brawler home. At the time, having a four player co-op game on the NES felt like a big deal, even if you needed the multitap accessory to make it happen. It was a bright, loud game in an era full of side scrollers.
You control one of the four turtles, moving through New York City streets and sewers. Your main goal is to fight through waves of Foot Clan soldiers to rescue April O'Neil and Splinter. The game progresses screen by screen; you clear all the enemies in one area before moving to the next. You have a standard attack and a jump attack, but your most important move is a special attack that hits all enemies on screen at the cost of some health. It gets frantic quickly, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty can be punishing. Playing it feels like being in a crowded, chaotic cartoon fight.
