Remember when every franchise had to have its own fighting game in the '90s? TMNT Tournament Fighters was the Turtles' take on Street Fighter, and honestly, it's way better than it had any right to be. You've got all four turtles plus some weird additions like Wingnut and that weird rat guy nobody remembers. The controls are surprisingly tight for an NES fighter—Leo's sword actually feels like it has range, and Donnie's staff pokes are oddly satisfying.

What makes it stand out is how bizarre some of the choices are. There's this one stage where you fight on floating platforms over a pit of... green slime? Acid? Who knows. And the AI cheats like crazy on higher difficulties, which just makes beating Shredder all the more satisfying. It's not quite as polished as SNES version, but for an 8-bit fighter, it holds up better than most.

If you're into retro fighters or just love the Turtles, this one's worth a few rounds. Just don't pick Metalhead unless you enjoy losing.
