Final Fantasy XII - Revenant Wings is one of those DS games that sneaks up on you—it starts off feeling like a lighter spin-off, but before long, you're deep in surprisingly tactical battles. You play as Vaan and his crew (yeah, the FFXII gang), but instead of traditional RPG combat, it's all about summoning little winged warriors called Espers and micromanaging them in real-time skirmishes.
At first, I thought it'd be too simple—just tap units and swarm enemies—but the AI actually puts up a decent fight, forcing you to balance melee, ranged, and flying units. The Espers have this rock-paper-scissors weakness system, so brute force doesn't always work. Also, the touch controls are weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of flicking units around the battlefield.
Story-wise, it's classic Final Fantasy—sky pirates, ancient civilizations, and way too many cutscenes for a handheld game. But if you liked FFXII's world, it's a solid side adventure with some legit strategy depth. Just don't expect Ivalice in full console glory—the sprites are charming, but the DS hardware shows its limits.
