Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge on NES is one of those old-school racers that feels way more intense than it looks. You start by picking between manual or automatic transmission—manual’s a pain at first, but once you get the hang of downshifting before tight corners, it actually makes a difference. The tracks are all over the place, from Monaco-style city circuits to wide-open straights where you can actually hit that 335 km/h top speed (until you inevitably spin out).
What’s cool is the AI cars actually race like they’re trying to win, not just follow a script. They’ll block you, take dumb risks, and sometimes wipe each other out in the first lap. Split-screen multiplayer is chaotic in the best way, especially when you shove your friend into a barrier mid-turn. The car customization’s basic by today’s standards, but tweaking gear ratios and downforce still gives you that "maybe this’ll work" feeling before a race.
Just don’t expect Forza-level realism—this is pure ‘90s arcade-style F1, where the brakes are more of a suggestion and every race feels like you’re barely in control. It’s a blast once you embrace the chaos.
