About Zero Tolerance (usa, Europe)
Zero Tolerance came out in 1994 for the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive in Europe. It was developed and published by Technopop. This was a time when first-person shooters were mostly found on computers, so having one on a 16-bit console felt like a novelty. The game puts you in the boots of one of five soldiers sent to a space station overrun by hostile aliens.
You control your character from a first-person perspective, moving through the station room by room. Your main goal is to eliminate the alien threat and survive. The game uses a sprite-based engine that scrolls smoothly as you explore; you collect keycards to open doors and gather an arsenal of weapons, from pistols to plasma rifles. Ammunition and health are scarce, which makes each encounter tense. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty is unforgiving, with enemies that can appear suddenly from any direction. Playing Zero Tolerance feels like a tense, lonely fight for survival in a claustrophobic maze.
