Man, The Death and Return of Superman on Genesis is one of those beat 'em ups that sticks with you—mostly because it actually follows the comics instead of just slapping Superman into some random plot. You start off punching through Doomsday’s rampage in Metropolis, and yeah, it’s as brutal as it sounds. Heat vision, super punches, the whole deal. But then… well, you know what happens. The game doesn’t shy away from it.
What’s cool is how they handle the aftermath—you play as different characters like Superboy and Cyborg Superman, each with their own weird little quirks. Some feel overpowered, others kinda clunky, but it keeps things interesting. The sprite work’s solid for its time, especially when you’re smashing through buildings or tossing cars like they’re toys. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you—some of those later levels are rough.
If you grew up with the comics or just love old-school superhero games, this one’s a weird, nostalgic trip. It’s janky in places, but in that way only ‘90s licensed games can be.
