Man, the Sega Genesis Batman game still holds up. You start off swinging between Gotham’s rooftops, and right away, the mood is perfect—dark, brooding, with that chunky 16-bit soundtrack setting the tone. The first level throws you into a brawl with thugs, and Batman’s punches have this satisfying weight to them. No floaty arcade stuff here.
Then there’s the grappling hook. Took me a minute to get the timing down, but once you do, zipping up to gargoyles or yanking enemies off ledges feels awesome. And yeah, the Joker’s waiting at the end, grinning like a maniac while he tries to blast you with… is that a joy buzzer? Classic.
It’s tough, but not cheap—every death feels like your fault. And that last boss fight? Let’s just say I may have thrown a controller back in ’93. Still one of the best superhero games from that era.
