Might & Magic 3 on the Genesis is one of those old-school RPGs that somehow still holds up. You start by rolling a party of four—I always go with at least one knight and a sorcerer, because those early dungeon fights get brutal fast. The world feels massive for a 16-bit game, with towns full of weird NPCs giving cryptic hints and dungeons that actually make you think before charging in.
Combat’s turn-based but snappy, and half the fun is figuring out how to stretch your limited spell points between fights. The graphics are chunky in that classic Genesis way, but there’s charm in the little details—like how your party portrait changes when someone’s poisoned or how tavern rumors actually lead to hidden loot. Just don’t expect waypoints or quest markers; you’ll be scribbling notes on actual paper like it’s 1992.
It’s got that addictive “one more dungeon” pull, especially once you start finding gear that turns your ragtag crew into proper heroes. The music’s a banger too—all synthy overworld themes and dungeon crawls that somehow make grinding feel epic. If you’re into retro RPGs with teeth, this one’s still worth booting up.
