Mahou Kishi Rayearth on Game Boy is one of those hidden gems that feels like stumbling into a tiny, pixelated anime adventure. You start off as three schoolgirls—Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu—who get yanked into a fantasy world and suddenly have to figure out magic armor and swords while rescuing their friend. The sprites are surprisingly expressive for a Game Boy game, and the dungeons have that classic "wait, did I miss a switch?" vibe.
Combat’s simple but satisfying—each girl has her own weapon and magic style, so swapping between them keeps things from getting stale. Hikaru’s fire spells wreck groups, but Umi’s ice is weirdly OP against bosses. The story’s straight from the manga, so if you’re a fan, it’s cool seeing little scenes play out between battles. Just don’t expect deep RPG mechanics—it’s more about the charm and nostalgia than complexity.
Also, the music slaps. That dungeon theme still gets stuck in my head.
