Ironman X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal is one of those weird, late-era Game Boy games that feels like it was made by someone who just really loved comics and didn’t care if the mechanics made sense. You play as two different armored heroes—Iron Man (obviously) and X-O Manowar (less obviously, unless you’re deep into Valiant Comics).
The first thing you’ll notice? The sprites are chunky, the controls are stiff, and the enemies just kind of… stand there. But there’s something oddly charming about it—like they tried to cram a console beat-em-up into the Game Boy and just barely made it work. You punch robots, jump awkwardly over pits, and occasionally switch between characters for no clear reason. It’s not great, but if you’re into obscure licensed games, it’s a weird little time capsule.
Honestly, I only played it because of the title. "In Heavy Metal"? Yeah, no—there’s no metal here, just beeps and bloops.
