Blue Almanac is one of those weird, underrated Genesis/Mega Drive sci-fi RPGs that feels like stumbling onto a lost anime from the late '80s. You start off with this moody intro sequence—your ship crashes on some alien planet, and suddenly you're piecing together a conspiracy while dealing with bizarre alien tech.
The combat's turn-based but with this odd grid system where positioning actually matters. At first I kept getting wrecked because I treated it like a typical JRPG, but once you figure out how to use terrain and character abilities together, fights get way more satisfying. Also, the soundtrack? Absolute banger—all synthy space vibes that somehow make pixelated desert planets feel epic.
It’s janky in that very specific early '90s way (good luck figuring out some puzzles without a guide), but there’s something charming about how ambitious it is for a 16-bit game. If you’re into obscure retro RPGs with more atmosphere than polish, this one’s worth digging up.
