Zool is one of those weird, hyperactive platformers from the '90s that feels like it was designed after someone drank six cans of energy drink. You play as this alien ninja dude who gets banished to a bizarre dimension full of candy-colored levels, weird enemies, and some seriously questionable hitboxes.
The first stage throws you right into it—wall-jumping between giant lollipops, dodging sentient gumballs, and collecting these little power-up icons that I still don’t fully understand. The music’s got that classic Genesis crunch, all squeaky synths and punchy bass, and the speed is relentless. It’s like Sonic if Sonic was hopped up on sugar and had a thing for throwing shurikens.
Honestly, it’s janky in that old-school way where you’ll die a lot to stuff that feels unfair, but there’s something weirdly charming about it. Maybe it’s the sheer audacity of a game where you fight a giant evil yo-yo as a boss. If you’re into retro platformers with attitude, this one’s a trip.
