Pokemon - Heart Gold (JP) game

Pokémon HeartGold (JP) is basically the DS remake of Gold/Silver, but with that classic Johto charm cranked up. You start in New Bark Town—same old Professor Elm giving you a starter, same rival being a jerk—but everything just feels better. The sprites have this cute chibi style, and seeing your lead Pokémon follow you around? Never gets old.

Early on, you’ll notice little tweaks—like the PokéGear’s radio actually being useful now, or how wild Pokémon occasionally hold items (finally, free berries). The real kicker? The Pokéwalker. Yeah, it sounds gimmicky, but taking your Pidgey for a stroll IRL to grind levels while you’re stuck in class is weirdly satisfying. Just don’t lose the thing.

Gym leaders hit harder this time, especially Whitney’s Miltank (still a nightmare), but the post-game’s where it shines—Kanto’s packed with surprises, and Red’s team will wreck you if you’re not ready. It’s the definitive way to play Gen 2, no contest.
