Steel Talons on SNES throws you straight into the cockpit of an attack helicopter—no tutorials, no hand-holding, just you and a surprisingly detailed control scheme for a 16-bit game. The first mission eases you in with some basic targets, but by mission two, you're dodging missiles while trying to line up shots on moving tanks. The controls take a minute to click (tilt forward to dive, back to climb), but once they do, weaving through canyons feels oddly satisfying.
Graphically, it's got that early SNES charm—blocky terrain, but the explosions and enemy choppers have weight to them. The soundtrack is all adrenaline-pumping synth that somehow makes even the training missions feel urgent. Just don't expect a cakewalk—later levels get brutal, especially when you're low on ammo and three gunships spawn behind you. Still, nailing a perfect run without crashing into a mountain? Pure 90s arcade joy.
If you miss the days when flight games demanded actual precision instead of auto-aim, this one's worth dusting off.
