Man, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition on SNES is pure 90s nostalgia. You pick your Ranger—I always went with Red because, let’s be real, Jason was the coolest—and throw down in these arcade-style fights against Rita’s goons. The sprites are bright and chunky, exactly how you remember them from the show, and the music? That theme song hits every time.
It’s not Street Fighter deep, but there’s something satisfying about landing a Megazord finisher or pulling off a team-up move with another Ranger. The controls are simple enough that you can button-mash your way through if you’re just messing around, but there’s actually some decent combos if you take the time to learn them. Just don’t expect to beat Goldar by spamming kicks—that guy’s cheap.
If you grew up watching the show, this is basically a love letter to Saturday morning cartoons and over-the-top martial arts poses. It’s janky in that classic SNES fighting game way, but in a good time capsule kind of way. Now excuse me while I go practice my Dragonzord uppercut.
