About Contra Iii The Alien Wars (snes)
Contra III: The Alien Wars came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed by Konami. It was part of that wave of early 90s action games that really pushed the hardware, with bigger sprites and more complex levels than you often saw on the 8-bit systems.
You control one of two commandos, Bill or Lance, running and gunning through a future Earth overrun by an alien force. Your main goal is to fight through six stages, destroying the alien hive mind. The gameplay is built on fast run-and-gun action, but it introduces new mechanics like the ability to carry two weapons at once and switch between them, and stages that mix traditional side-scrolling with overhead perspective levels where your character moves freely. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is notoriously high, demanding quick reflexes and memorization of enemy patterns. It feels like a constant, explosive struggle for survival where every mistake is punished.
