Ever played one of those old-school RPGs where you wander into a fight and suddenly your party’s arranged in a grid like chess pieces? That’s Sorcerer’s Kingdom—a weird little Genesis gem where positioning actually matters. You recruit knights, archers, and mages, then shuffle them around mid-battle to avoid getting flanked. Mess up, and some skeleton with a spear will poke your healer from three squares away.
It’s got that classic "first-gen RPG" jank—vague stats, cryptic spells, and way too many random encounters—but there’s something oddly satisfying about outmaneuvering enemies instead of just mashing attack. Just don’t expect much story. You’re basically a guy with a sword who gets told "go kill the evil sorcerer" and that’s the whole plot.
Still, if you’ve got nostalgia for grid-based combat and don’t mind grinding, it’s worth a look. The music slaps, too.
