Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children: Honoo No Sho is one of those GBA RPGs that doesn’t mess around—you’re thrown straight into a world where demons are everywhere, and half the time you’re not sure if you should fight them or recruit them. The first hour alone has you making choices that actually matter, like picking your starter demon (I went with a Pyro Jack because, well, fire).
It’s got that classic SMT vibe where battles feel tactical, not just button-mashy, and negotiating with monsters is weirdly tense. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, especially when some of the bigger demons show up. If you’ve played other Devil Children games, you’ll recognize the tone—dark but not grimdark, with just enough humor to keep things from getting too heavy.
Fair warning: the demon fusion system will suck you in once you realize how many weird combos you can make. I lost at least an hour just experimenting with it.
