Pokemon Ash Gray Version Game

Pokémon Ash Gray Version is a GBA romhack that basically lets you live out the anime—you start as Ash, Pikachu refuses to listen at first (just like the show), and you even get dragged into Team Rocket’s nonsense every five minutes. The early game’s full of little nods to the series, like having to chase Pikachu through the tall grass or dealing with Misty tagging along.
It’s not just a straight retelling though—you can actually catch Pokémon Ash never did in the anime, and some gym battles play out differently. Brock’s Onix still feels way too strong at first, but at least you don’t have to rely on a sprinkler system this time. The sprite work’s surprisingly clean for a hack, and the maps follow Kanto while adding some anime-only spots.
If you ever wanted to yell “Thunderbolt!” at your GBA screen unironically, this is the closest you’ll get.
