Mega Man II on Game Boy is one of those rare portable versions that actually holds up. The controls feel just right—snappy jumps, precise shots—even if the screen’s a bit cramped compared to the NES. You’ve got your usual lineup of robot masters (though some are weirdly renamed here), and the levels have that perfect mix of tricky platforming and "oh-crap" enemy spam.
What surprised me was how they squeezed in those chunky, satisfying sound effects. That little *pew* when you fire and the way bosses explode into pixelated chunks? Pure nostalgia. It’s tough as nails in spots (looking at you, Quick Man stage), but nailing a perfect run after a dozen tries still feels amazing. Just don’t throw your Game Boy across the room when you miss a jump.
If you’ve got a soft spot for old-school action or just want to suffer through a proper challenge, this one’s still a blast. The music’s stuck in my head decades later.
