Mega Man Xtreme 2 on Game Boy Color is basically a pocket-sized version of the classic SNES action—same dash-jumping, wall-climbing, and boss-rushing chaos, just with slightly chunkier pixels. You pick between X or Zero right off the bat (Zero’s sword feels weirdly good on this tiny screen), then dive into remixed stages from X1 and X2. The music’s surprisingly punchy for a GBC game, though you’ll definitely miss some of the original’s smoother animations.
It’s tougher than it looks—enemy patterns are brutal if you’re used to the console versions, and the screen crunch means cheap hits happen. But nailing a perfect boss fight with the right weapon combo? Still stupidly satisfying. Just don’t expect a full-blown new adventure—this is more like a “best of” with some extra bits sewn in.
If you’ve got a soft spot for 8-bit Mega Man or just want something punishing for your commute, it’s worth the thumb cramps.
