Faria is one of those NES RPGs that flew under the radar but has this weird charm to it. You play as this sword-wielding warrior (who’s actually a woman, which was pretty rare for the time) and just kinda get thrown into this fantasy world with zero hand-holding. The overworld map feels huge for an 8-bit game, and dungeons are these maze-like things where you’re constantly bumping into walls trying to find hidden passages.
Combat’s first-person, almost like early Dragon Quest, but with this odd timing-based system where you have to wait for your turn meter to fill. Took me a while to get used to it—kept swinging too early and whiffing attacks. The music’s got that classic chiptune vibe, especially the dungeon theme that somehow gets stuck in your head after an hour of grinding.
It’s janky in places (good luck figuring out some puzzles without a guide), but there’s something about its ambition that makes it stand out from other NES RPGs. You can tell the devs were trying to cram in way more than the hardware could handle.
