Ever played a strategy game where you actually feel like a general barking orders in the middle of a warzone? That’s The Hybrid Front on the Genesis. You start off picking your squad—tanks, infantry, the works—and immediately get thrown into these tight, grid-based battles where every move matters. Mess up your positioning, and suddenly your artillery’s getting shredded by enemy mechs.

What’s cool is how it mixes turn-based planning with real-time chaos when units actually clash. One second you’re carefully moving snipers into cover, the next you’re watching your tank blow up because you forgot to check the terrain. The story’s this weird alternate-history WW2 thing with mechs and super-soldiers, which sounds ridiculous but somehow works when you’re knee-deep in fog-of-war ambushes.

It’s one of those games where losing a single unit hurts because you’ve named them all after your friends (or at least I did). If you’re into punishing, old-school tactics with a side of janky 90s charm, this one’s still a blast. Just don’t expect the AI to go easy on you.
