Onslaught on the Genesis is one of those games that feels like it was designed to punish you in the best way possible. You start off thinking, "Okay, this isn't so bad," and then suddenly you're drowning in enemies—like, screen-filling, bullet-hell levels of chaos. The first boss alone made me reset at least three times before I figured out its pattern.
It nails that classic arcade shooter vibe—bright, chunky sprites, a soundtrack that somehow loops perfectly without getting annoying, and controls tight enough that when you die, you know it's your fault. I will say, though, the difficulty spikes are brutal. You either master dodging or you don’t survive past level 3.
If you miss the days of sweating over a CRT with your thumb sore from mashing buttons, this is pure nostalgia fuel. Just don’t throw your controller when the final boss cheats.
