Man, this one takes me back. Newman Haas Indy Car on the Genesis was one of those racing games that felt surprisingly deep for its time. You’ve got Nigel Mansell’s face plastered all over it, which should tell you this isn’t just some arcade racer—it’s got that early '90s sim vibe, complete with tire wear and fuel management. The tracks are tight, the AI is aggressive, and if you don’t nail your pit strategy, you’ll watch the pack leave you behind by lap 30.
First thing you’ll notice? The handling’s twitchy as hell. Feather the throttle or you’ll spin before turn one. But once you get the hang of it, threading those narrow ovals at 200+ mph actually feels rewarding. The damage model’s brutal too—clip a wall and your steering goes wonky for the rest of the race. Not exactly forgiving, but that’s part of the charm.
Still holds up if you’re into old-school racing sims with a learning curve steeper than the corkscrew at Laguna Seca.
