Mario Kart 64 is that chaotic, couch-competitive racing game you probably remember from childhood—except now you realize how brutal it actually is. You pick your favorite Nintendo character (I always went with Yoshi, no regrets), then immediately get thrown into these wild tracks with shortcuts you’ll either master or wipe out on. The first time a blue shell hits you right before the finish line, you’ll understand true pain.
Multiplayer is where it shines, though. Four players, one screen, and way too many banana peels. The controls feel a little slidey now compared to newer Mario Karts, but that’s part of the charm—you’re basically wrestling the kart around corners. And don’t even get me started on Rainbow Road.
It’s still one of those games where “just one more race” turns into an hour-long grudge match.
