V-Rally Edition 99 (E) game

V-Rally '99 on the N64 is one of those racers that feels surprisingly good for its time—like if someone took the loose, slidey fun of rally driving and crammed it into a cartridge. The physics actually make sense when you're throwing a car around dirt corners, and the tracks have just enough unpredictable bumps to keep you from getting too comfortable.

What I like is how the weather actually changes things—rain turns already sketchy roads into a slip-and-slide, and night stages? Good luck seeing that next turn. You’ve got a decent mix of cars to tweak, too, though good luck not just sticking with whatever handles the mud best after a few wipeouts. It’s not the prettiest racer on the system, but it’s got that weird charm where you keep retrying a stage just to shave off half a second.

Definitely a solid pick if you’re into rally games that punish you for treating the gas pedal like an on/off switch.
