FIFA 99 on N64 was one of those games that made you feel like you were actually playing football—well, as close as you could get back then. The player movements were way smoother than earlier FIFA games, and the graphics had this crisp, almost arcade-like feel to them. You could pick from a ton of international teams, and messing around with the tactics actually made a difference, which was rare for sports games at the time.
First thing I did was jump into a quick match with Brazil—because, of course—and within minutes I was sliding tackles, pulling off fake shots, and cursing at the ref for missing obvious fouls. The AI wasn’t perfect, but it was smart enough to keep you on your toes. If you played this back in the day, you probably remember the soundtrack too—absolute bangers.
Still holds up if you’re into retro football games, just don’t expect hyper-realistic physics or anything.
