Killer Instinct on Game Boy was one of those "wait, how did they even make this work?" ports. The arcade version blew minds with its pre-rendered 3D fighters, and somehow they squeezed that into a tiny cartridge. It's choppy, sure, but pulling off a 12-hit combo on Jago while your friend watches in horror still feels amazing.
What's wild is how much of the original game's DNA survived—the same brutal combos, those ridiculous ultra-violent finishers (looking at you, Spinal), and that announcer screaming "C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!" at 8-bit quality. The roster's smaller than the arcade, but Sabrewulf still controls like a nightmare in the best way possible.
It's definitely a product of its time—the AI cheats shamelessly on higher difficulties, and good luck seeing anything in a dark room with that non-backlit screen. But for two players with a link cable? Pure mid-90s fighting game chaos.
