Final Fantasy III (or VI, depending on who you ask) on SNES is one of those RPGs that just sticks with you. Right from the start, you’re thrown into this weird, steampunk-meets-magic world with a cold open—no slow tutorials, just a couple of soldiers stomping through the snow in magitek armor. The mood hits hard, and the music? Absolute banger.
The job system here is way more flexible than it looks at first glance. You’ve got your classic knights and mages, but then there’s wild stuff like the Blue Mage who learns enemy skills or the Dragoon with those ridiculous jump attacks. I spent way too much time swapping jobs just to see what each one could do—and yeah, some combos are stupidly overpowered.
What really gets me, though, is how the story flips halfway through. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say the world doesn’t stay the way you first see it. The pixel art somehow makes every emotional beat land, from quiet moments in towns to full-on airship battles. If you’ve ever wanted an RPG where the villain actually feels dangerous, this one’s got you covered.
Still holds up, even if the random encounters can be brutal sometimes.
