Final Fantasy VI is one of those SNES classics that still holds up today—especially with this fan-translated version that fixes all the weird bugs from the original English release. You start off with Terra, a girl with mysterious magic powers, and before long you're recruiting a whole crew of misfits, from rebellious thieves to disgraced knights.
Kefka’s the villain here, and he’s not your typical brooding bad guy—he’s just gleefully, unapologetically evil. The story goes way deeper than you’d expect from a 16-bit RPG, with some moments that still hit hard. And the soundtrack? Absolute perfection. Nobuo Uematsu at his best.
What I love is how each character actually feels unique, not just in story but in combat. Figuring out who works best in your party is half the fun—like, do you go full magic with Terra, or lean into Sabin’s ridiculous suplexes? The Esper system lets you customize everyone’s skills, so no two playthroughs feel exactly the same.
If you’ve never played it, this is the version to try—no janky translation, no game-breaking glitches, just pure 90s JRPG gold.
