World Driver Championship on the N64 was way ahead of its time—those car models and tracks still hold up surprisingly well. You start off picking from a handful of real-world circuits (Monza, Suzuka, etc.), and the handling feels weighty but responsive—like you’re actually wrestling with a machine instead of just gliding around corners. The career mode’s where it shines, though: you earn cash for upgrades, but you’ve gotta be smart about it because blowing all your wad on engine tweaks means your brakes might be garbage for the next race.
What really stuck with me was how punishing it could be if you got sloppy. Miss a braking zone by half a second? Congrats, you’re now eating tire barrier. But nailing a perfect lap through the rain at Silverstone? Pure adrenaline. The AI doesn’t just rubberband either—they actually race like rivals, blocking and making mistakes.
Still one of the best simcade racers on the system, even if it got overshadowed by the usual suspects.
