Warsong is one of those old-school tactical RPGs that makes you feel like a general moving chess pieces across a battlefield—except your pawns are knights, mages, and archers. The first time I played, I lost a whole squad because I underestimated how fast enemy cavalry could flank me. Lesson learned.
What I love is how each unit type actually matters. Archers melt flying units, but get wrecked if something gets too close. Mages hit hard but run out of steam fast. You’re constantly juggling positioning, terrain bonuses, and whether to push forward or play defensively. And the story? Surprisingly solid for a Genesis game—you’re not just fighting random battles, you’re reclaiming a kingdom.
It’s got that classic "one more turn" pull where you tell yourself you’ll stop after clearing the next map, then suddenly it’s 2 AM. If you’re into Fire Emblem or Shining Force but missed this one back in the day, it’s worth digging up.
