Tomodachi Collection is this weirdly addictive little life sim where you basically play god for a bunch of Mii-like characters. You start by designing their looks and personalities—like, you can make your best friend super cheerful or your neighbor oddly obsessed with pickles—then drop them all on a tiny island together and see what chaos unfolds.

At first it seems simple, but then your characters start forming random friendships, getting into dumb arguments, or even breaking into song for no reason. I once made a version of my cat as a character, and within an hour it had formed a punk band with my grandma’s Mii. The dialogue is all in Japanese, but the expressions and animations do most of the talking.

It’s one of those games where you check in for five minutes and suddenly realize you’ve been watching your little weirdos for an hour. The DS touch controls make it super easy to poke around their lives, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about seeing what nonsense they’ll get up to next.
