Super Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back Game
📅 1993 ✍️ LucasArts, Sculptured Software

Super Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back on SNES is one of those games that nails the movie’s vibe while still being its own chaotic, pixelated beast. You start off blasting stormtroopers on Hoth—until, of course, an AT-ST stomps in and ruins your day. The snowspeeder section feels janky at first, but once you get the hang of those tow cables, taking down walkers is stupidly satisfying.
Dagobah’s swamp is a nightmare (in a good way), with those weird frog creatures and Yoda’s cryptic training making you feel as lost as Luke did. And yeah, the lightsaber duels? Clunky but intense—especially when Vader shows up with that creepy breathing. The sprite work still holds up, especially the way blaster fire lights up dark corridors.
It’s tough as nails in spots (looking at you, Bespin platforms), but nailing a perfect run through the asteroid field or finally beating Boba Fett makes it worth the rage. This is peak ‘90s Star Wars, warts and all.
