Super Metroid Oxide is one of those SNES games that just feels right—like slipping into an old pair of boots that somehow still fit perfectly. You start off as Samus, blasting through eerie alien tunnels, and within minutes, you’re already lost in some cavern wondering if that weird wall is hiding a secret or just messing with you. (Spoiler: it’s probably hiding something.)
The atmosphere is thick—like, "turn off the lights and let the soundtrack creep you out" thick. And the controls? Smooth as butter, even decades later. You’ll jump, shoot, and roll into a ball so much that it becomes second nature, right up until you hit a boss that makes you rethink your entire strategy. Classic Metroid, basically.
If you’ve played the original, you’ll recognize the vibe instantly, but Oxide adds enough twists to keep even veterans guessing. And if you’re new? Don’t worry—you’ll be obsessively bombing every suspicious floor tile in no time. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of three hours trying to find that one last power-up.
