StarCraft 64 is one of those weird, ambitious ports that somehow works—even if it feels a little out of place on the N64. You’ve got the full StarCraft experience crammed onto a cartridge: Terrans, Protoss, and Zerg duking it out in that classic RTS chaos, just with slightly chunkier sprites and a controller instead of a mouse. The controls take some getting used to (good luck micro-managing your Dragoons with a D-pad), but once it clicks, it’s still the same addictive base-building, resource-hogging madness.
What’s wild is they even threw in some exclusive N64 co-op missions, so if you’ve got a buddy and a spare controller, you can team up against the AI. Graphics are obviously a step down from the PC version, but there’s something charming about seeing Battlecruisers chugging along on a tiny CRT screen. Just don’t expect online play—this is pure couch multiplayer or solo campaign vibes.
If you’re a StarCraft diehard or just love weird console RTS experiments, it’s worth a look. Just maybe keep a strategy guide handy for those later Protoss missions.
