Small Soldiers on Game Boy is one of those weird little gems that makes you forget you're technically just moving tiny sprites around. At first glance, it's toy soldiers duking it out, but there's actually some sneaky strategy under the hood—like figuring out whether to send your flamethrower guy straight into the fray or hang back with snipers. The missions start simple (mostly just "shoot the other guys"), but later levels get surprisingly tense when you're low on units and the enemy keeps respawning.
What I love is how each soldier type actually feels different—the commandos move faster but die if someone sneezes on them, while the heavy weapons guys plod along like they're carrying a fridge. And yeah, the graphics are pure Game Boy chunky-pixel charm, but the sound effects? That little *pew pew* noise lives in my brain rent-free. Just don't expect a deep war sim—it's more like chess if the pawns occasionally exploded.
Still holds up if you're into retro games that don't take themselves too seriously.
